What makes a Shiraz special?
Wine Spectator recently reported that Syrah vineyards now total more than 287,000 acres globally. Shiraz is typically bold and full-bodied, with aromatic notes of smoke, black fruit and pepper spice.
Stylistically, it can be round and fruity, or dense and tannic. And in warmer New World regions like Australia, Syrah might be called Shiraz.
Whatever the name, Syrah/Shiraz offers a style for everyone. It is a very food-friendly wine that delivers now or can age quite gracefully.
